You are not your thoughts
Last week a client of mine was told she was a total disappointment and that everyone else was doing so much better than she was, both at work and as a Mum to her one year old.
So many of us are subject to negative, critical or judgemental words on a daily basis.
Just like in the case of my client, most of these words are received as thoughts generated from inside our mind! But this doesn't make them any less painful to hear.
I work with people who are tortured daily by the thoughts they think. They induce feelings of shame, guilt, judgement and can be vicious enough to push them into a state of stress, fear and sometimes even panic.
So how do we help ourselves to alleviate some of the suffering we inflict on ourselves?
I’d suggest that investigating what thoughts really are can help us to see them more clearly and then decide if there is a better way to relate to them (not believe everything we think!).
This is mindfulness and it’s a skill that takes practise, but one small step you can take today is to think twice about the thoughts that enter your mind.
I have a short, guided meditation that helps explore this further. If you’d like to try it, check it out on the home page or go to YouTube @DianeTitterton
This meditation is designed to help you:
☀️ Create space from overthinking
☀️ Calm anxiety and mental overwhelm
☀️Observe thoughts without reacting to them
☀️ Reduce identification with negative thinking
☀️ Feel more grounded and present
Perfect for stress, burnout, anxiety, insomnia or simply those moments when your mind won’t slow down.
☀️☀️☀️ Remember: Not every thought is true.
☀️☀️☀️ Not every thought deserves belief.
☀️☀️☀️ And you are not your thoughts.
